Bramshaw v Liss Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 15 Aug 2009 at 1pm
Liss Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report Liss arrived at Bramshaw on Saturday high on confidence after easily beating Fawley the previous weekend. Captain Pleace Jnr won the toss and elected to bowl on what looked a decent surface with a tinge of grass on top.

Baul and Janczur opened the bowling and uncharacteristically got Liss off to a poor start. The Bramshaw batsmen attacked the opening pair like no one else had all year and quickly had raced into an excellent position at 39/0 off 4 overs. Janczur and Baul managed to drag Liss back into the game with 3 quick wickets between them but opener and opposition captain Hart continued to find boundaries easy to come by, he was ably supported by Stuchbury.

Cover came on as first change and instantly put a stop to Hart's quick scoring as he plugged away with some probing swing bowling, constantly asking questions of the opposition batsmen. He continued to bowl with great accuracy as he accounted for the main wickets of Hart and Stuchbury although receiving little support from his fellow bowlers. Cover finished with great figures of 4-39 from his 10 overs and ensured the opponents total was well within reach.

Bramshaw were the first side to have survived a full 50 overs against the Liss bowling attack. Liss will feel with some slightly tighter bowling and fielders taking tough half chances they would have been able to restrict the opposition to under 200.

Liss opened with Munt and Cover for the second successive week hoping to gain full batting points for the first time in the season. The pair made a cautious start having a look at what the opposition opening bowlers had to offer. Liss lost Cover early for 12 and this brought Hall to join Munt at the crease.

Munt then took it upon himself to up the aggression as he took the attack to each of the Bramshaw's bowlers regularly finding the boundary with some stunning shots. He was supported well by Hall until poor shot selection brought the end of his innings. Pleace Jnr was next to join Munt and the pair put on a quickfire partnership of 30 with all of the runs being scored by Munt before the captain fell on the wrong side of an LBW decision for 0.

Munt was then joined by Martin and the pair continued the excellent scoring rate against the change bowlers. Munt then brought up the first league hundred of his career with his poorest shot of the day as the ball squirmed down to third man. It marked a superb individual effort from Munt in crucial circumstances. He continued to bat aggressively scoring at better than run a ball throughout his innings until it came to a tame end as he chipped straight to mid wicket. Munt's brilliant chanceless innings of 133 consisted of 18 fours and 5 sixes and was his top score in league cricket.

Martin continued his innings showing great responsibility and shot selection as he eased Liss across the line with 12 overs to spare finishing on 28 not out. Liss have now won 11 games out of 11 maintaining there 100% record in the league, and with all there fellow competitors falling around them the 1st XI look on course to win County Division 1 and achieve their goal of SPL cricket. The only thing that looks like it can stop them now is complacency. The 1st XI travel to Porchester next week in a bid for there 12th successive victory.
