Liss Cricket Club team
Sunday XI
Captain :
Owen Murphy
Owen came to Liss in 2008. He helped the first XI to an unbeaten season last year and came 6th in the league bowling averages for County Division 1. Hoping to play a big part for Liss this year by taking plenty of wickets with his left arm spin and scoring plenty of runs.
Vice Captain :
Chris Allcock
Club captain, Chris will be the brains behind the operation for Liss promotion this year. With the ability to score runs and dominate the opposition bowlers he is a captain with lots of talent to nurture under his wings, could be a stressful season for 'skip' but leading by example will be his way forward.
Players
Shaun Blanks
Shaun had a great season in 2009, scoring a fantastic hundred and having a string of impressive games for Liss. Shaun has a huge amount of potential and keeping a calm head for him is key this year. No doubt he will be a player to watch with both bat and ball.
Ian Brownlee
Ian is looking for a return this year after a prolongued absence from a knee injury. Much missed, when he makes his return he will again be an integral cog in the Liss team.
Dave Chambers
Turtle resembles the FA Cup to a T, but on the cricket resembles Sydney Harbour Bridge. Always good for selection in the 1's for a laugh, but belongs in the 3's at best! Turtle will be looking to get his hands on one of the most prestiege club awards at the end of season dinner dance....The Duck Bat.
Reece Hughes
Will Hunt
Will is a promising young player who has become more confident over the last year. He is a batsman with lots of potential. Hopefully Will can use this season to push on and make a place for himself in the team.
Steve Johns
Steve aka Johnsy aka Lego has been a member for a few years now and has been a great servant to the club. He is currently a 1st team middle order batsman that often adds vital runs with his unique batting style. I predict a good year for him and hopefully a few catches behind the stumps too.
Gary Kemp
Gavin Kemp
Gavin is a big talent. A hard hitting batsman that can tear apart an opposition attack. Gavin has gained his coaching badges over the winter so will take the skills he has learnt into his own game. He will be looking to really impose himself this year and keep the opposition on the back foot scoring plenty of runs on the way.
Luke Lee-Nutbrown
Probably the least orthadox batsman but he gets results. With a superb eye, yoshi has been the destroyer of many a bowlers spell. Good in the field he is an all round player, doesn't mind a bit of banter either.
Phil Moore
Phil had a good season with the ball last year and is looking to push on this season and continue to improve. A season playing senior cricket has built Phil's confidence and will be a great asset to the club.
Will Parrott
Richard Pleace Jnr
Captain inspirational for the 1st team. Rick has batted at the top of the order for Liss for nearly 20 years. Year upon year rick has broken his own and others batting records in the league and within the club. A superb temperament means he is almost impossible to remove. A fine fielder and innovative captain, Rick is bound to be a thorn in any oppositions side again for 2009. He will lead the charge and hope to build on a slightly poor 2008 by his high standards.
Richard Pleace Snr
The life and soul of Liss cricket club whether playing or in the bar after the game. He strikes fear into the opposition with his flighted bowling and can hold up an end superbly. Pops has done a massive amount for Liss over the years, and still continues to give (even if it is with awful jokes and money behind the bar!)...
Jimmy Small
Jimmy is one of the more experienced members of the first team and a bit of a jack of all trades of the cricket field. Without doubt, his greatest ability lies in the field. Over the years Jimmy has taken breathtaking catches and produced many a direct hit run outs. Jimmy will look to add vital lower order runs and will be dependable with the ball in his hand.
Simon Wyatt
Simon is a very steady opening batsman and has scored many runs over the years. A crucial part in the batting line-up Simon is the concrete every team needs to build a successful innings.
