Liss Cricket Club

Easton & Martyr W II v Liss Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 02 Jun 2012 at 2.00pm
Liss Cricket Club Lost by 93 runs

Match report The home side won the toss and elected to bat. Opening batsman Green made his intentions clear from the outset with big shots straight away. Liss bowlers Richardson and Baker were not bowling a bad line and length but with a true wicket the batsmen were hitting hard through the ball. A change in the bowling brought Parrott into the attack and after two boundaries Green chased a wider delivery and was caught for 41. Easton were 50-1 after 12 overs. This aggressive style of batting continued with each batsmen. With a mixture of boundaries and luck the ball seem to miss all the fielders. Easton moved onto 86 before Parrott picked up his second wicket caught by young Matt Evans making his league debut. Liss changed the bowling again with a change of pace of Pleace snr and Matt Evans. Evans picked up his first senior league wicket in his first over and closely followed by Pleace snr picking up his first. The home side were now 115-4 after 26 overs. Liss were trying to tighten up now to keep the total as low as possible but with the ball flying through gaps in the field the batting side continued to add valuable runs. Evans finished his spell with just the 1 wicket but deserved more and was a positive to come out of the day. Pleace snr did pick up a second wicket but Easton went past the 200 mark and finished on 205-5 from 42 overs.
Liss had the batsmen to chase this target down but lost Richardson and Pleace jnr in the first two overs again and were on the back foot straight away. Moore and Kemp were now at the crease but after picking up two boundaries Kemp was caught for 8 chasing a wide delivery. Liss were now 30-3. A partnership then started to form between Moore and Brownlee. Both batsmen picking up runs and kept Liss ahead of the run rate. With a big performance needed Moore started to pick up boundaries. They saw off the opening bowlers and moved the score onto 92 before Brownlee was bowled for 17. This started the collapse again. The next four batsmen only managed 7 runs between them and Liss were left 102-8. Moore was still battling on but eventually fell for 43. Pleace snr and Matt evens were the last pair. After picking up 8 runs Evans was bowled for 8 leaving Pleace snr complaining he had run out of partners again and Liss all out for 112.
