Liss Cricket Club 1st XI v Sherfield on Loddon on Sat 09 Jun 2012 at 2.00pm
Liss Cricket Club Won by 113 runs

Match report The grounds men at Liss worked hard to get this game on this week to try and keep Liss’s 100% home record. On a slightly soft track Liss were put into bat. The usual partnership of Pleace jnr and Richardson opened up and with some very loose bowling from one end saw them move the score onto 32 from just 4 overs. Richardson was the first Liss player to go for 15. A change in the bowling tightened things up for the visitors but Pleace jnr was still at the crease picking up runs. Liss then lost two quick wickets and found themselves 57-3 hoping another collapse wasn’t on the cards. Kemp jnr joined Pleace and the pair began to build a partnership. Both players were scoring boundaries with Kemp hitting 3 maximums in just a few overs. At the halfway point Liss had reached 100-3. Kemp was looking comfortable before the opening bowler Mitchell came back into the attack and bowled Kemp for 37. Mitchell finished his spell by picking up his 4th wicket dismissing Radford for just 4. With the score now 157-5 Allcock joined the in touch Pleace. Both batsmen were trying to increase the run rate. A quick partnership of 30 formed before Allcock was caught behind for 16. Pleace was batting well again and was on target for another century when he was bowled for 87. The home side the last few wickets cheaply and ended 207 all out. A good total in the conditions.
The track was drying out so Liss needed to bowl well to make early breakthroughs. They did not need to wait long with Baker dismissing one of the openers in his 2nd over. Both Baker and Parrott were bowling tight lines and Parrott should have picked up the next wicket having the Sherfield opener caught behind. Somehow he was not given out and did not want to walk. It was not long before justice was done and he was run out for just 1. The visitors found themselves 4-2. Nixon and Grant were now in for Sherfield and looked comfortable at the crease. They were still behind the run rate but the pair moved the scored onto 54 before young Matty Evans dismissed them both in one over. To Sherfields credit they kept trying to attack but with limited success. Richardson and Pleace snr were brought into the attack with immediate results. Richarson 2 wickets and Pleace snr 1 in their first 3 overs. With the score just 73-7 the visitors were struggling. The runs had seemed to have dried up and Richardson took his 3rd and 4th wicket. Sherfield were 75-9 but the number 11 wanted to go down fighting. A quick fire 13 moved the total onto 94 before Pleace snr took his second wicket and completed the victory for Liss. They will try to win their first away game next week at Colden Common.
