Liss Cricket Club 1st XI v Bentworth on Sat 18 Aug 2012 at 2.00pm
Liss Cricket Club Won by 23 runs

Match report Liss played host to Bentworth this week and after loosing the toss were put into bat. With a few players missing this week it was a new opening partnership with Owen Murphy joining Richard Pleace jnr. Unfortunately this did not last long with Murphy being caught for just 5 bringing Radford to the crease. The visiting side bowled a very consistent line and gave nothing away, both Pleace and Radford needed to work hard for runs. After 10 overs Liss were 24-1. Pleace then started to find his feet and continued his good run of form picking up runs quickly and keeping the score ticking over. Pleace past his 50 and things were looking good. Radford was holding an end up well but the partnership was broken with Pleace trapped lbw for 68. He was closely followed by Radford for 16 and Liss were 97-3 after 26 overs. Bentworth were still bowling very well and changed the pace of the attack. Ian Brownlee was now at the crease and started to tap the ball around with style. Liss lost their 4th wicket quickly bringing Chris Allcock in and the pair needed to put their foot down to post a decent total with 10 overs to go the home side were 106-4. Allcock started to find the boundary and Browlee was looking comfortable the pair put on 19 before Allcock was caught for 11. Brownlee continued to bat nicely, and although liss did lose another wicket, batted the innings for a useful 34 not out. Liss had finished on 150-6 so had work to do in the field.
The Bentworth batsmen settled into the crease very early and put the Liss bowlers slightly off their regular rhythm. With a smaller then ideal target to defend Liss had to concentrate in the field and could not afford silly mistakes. Bentworth were knocking the ball around well and after 14 overs were 41 without loss. Lawrence Baker then struck with Cole being caught for 26 buy Murphy. Murphy picked up his 2nd catch 3 overs later off the bowling of Matty Evans and the visitors were now 51-2 approaching halfway. Bentworth continued to dig deep and formed a 3rd wicket partnership of 30 before Pleace jnr got his first wicket, and 3rd catch for Murphy, followed quickly by his 2nd leaving the total 84-4. The game was tight so Liss brought on there wicket machine for the last few weeks Richard Please snr. The father and son combination bowled tightly and runs were now harder to come by. The total seemed out of reach when Pleace snr bowled Nguyen for 4 and with 5 overs to go Bentworth were 101-5. A late flurry saw the score move onto 127 but liss came out on top to guarantee their 2nd promotion in 2 years with 1 league game remaining.
