Bentworth v Liss Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 01 Jun 2013 at 2.00pm
Liss Cricket Club Won by 72 runs

Match report Liss kept up their 100% winning start with victory over Bentworth. Liss were put into bat and the opening partnership of Richard Pleace jnr and Colin Sharp made a steady start. Pleace jnr immediately found the boundary and the pair put on 30 in the first 10 overs before Pleace played on for 22. Moore joined Sharp and tried to lift the run rate, he scored a quick 18 before being caught. Sharp fell shortly after for a steady 21 and Liss were 72-3 after 21 overs. Bentworth’s bowling attack were not giving much away and were keeping the run rate under control. Chris Allcock and Paddy Cowell started to build a partnership and were looking to push Liss onto a formidable target. Allcock in hard hitting form added 35 before being bowled by Yorke and Cowell 13 before falling the same way. With only 10 overs remaining Liss were still only 118-6 and a good finish was needed. A welcome return by Jimmy Small added 22 with some large maximums. The tail continued to wag with both Jake Southam and Jacob Hedicker scoring a continued stream of boundaries. With these late runs Liss earned maximum batting points and had set Bentworth a total of 202.
Hedicker and Cowell opened the bowling for Liss and Cowell started where he finished last week and had the batsmen playing and missing straight away but it was Hedicker that made the breakthrough having Yorke caught for 7 and the home side 19-1. Flack was now at the crease for Bentworth and long with young Robson batted well and moved the score onto 67 before new bowler Southam broke the partnership having flack stumped very well by Robbie Pearce for 23. Pleace father and son were now into the attack both bowling tight keeping the run rate to a minimum but it was Snr that started taking the wickets. He picked up his first with just his 5th ball and then a further 3 in his fantastic 10 over spell. Mounting pressure started to cause panic and Liss picked up 2 run outs in quick succession and Bentworth were 117-7 and victory was all but done for Liss. It was all about gaining points now and Jimmy Small came onto bowl and collected the visitor’s two final wickets and a superb catch with Bentworth finishing 130-9 from their 42 overs. The pick of Bantworth’s batsmen was young Robson who carried his bat for 42 overs scoring 50. Liss are top of the league and go into next week full of confidence.
