Liss Cricket Club 1st XI v Rotherwick ITW on Sat 08 Jun 2013 at 2.00pm
Liss Cricket Club Won by 181 runs

Match report Liss continue to top the pile with another convincing home win. On a very good wicket Liss lost the toss but were put into bat. Colin Sharp and Richard Pleace jnr made the usual steady start. Sharp was the first to fall in the 9th over with the score on 34 bringing Phill Moore in to join Pleace jnr. Moore’s aggressive approach picked up the run rate and both him and Pleace started to find the boundary regularly. The home side quickly moved the score onto 87 before Pleace was caught for 40. Chris Allcock was now in and with two aggressive batsmen together Liss were looking at a big total. Just as another partnership started to form Moore fell for 45. Allcock and Cowell put on another impressive partnership of 36 before Allcock was bowled for 37 and Cowell 18. Robbie Pearce was now settling at the crease and started to knock the ball around nicely, Small and Brownlee chipped in with runs but Pearce really started to open up and quickly brought up his first 50 for the club. Pearce finally fell for 52 and Liss were 243-8 with 4 overs left. Johns and Hedicker then proved Liss bat all the way down and put on a fine partnership of 28 and pushed Liss up to an impressive total of 271 from their 42 overs.
Liss were in good spirits posting such a large total and came out the blocks firing with the ball with Hedicker taking a wicket in the first over and Rotherwick were 0-1 and had a long way to go. Cowell started in the same vein and bowled well from the off. He picked up his first wicket and Liss then picked up a run out and the visiting side were really struggling on 12-3. Both Cowell and Hedicker were seemingly unplayable and wickets continued to fall. Cowell took a 2nd wicket and a very impressive Hedicker picked up a further 3 finishing on figure of 10 overs 4-11. Rotherwick were now 48-7 and it was all about Liss turning the screw and taking the last 3 wickets. The pace was taken off the ball now with Small and Pleace snr coming onto bowl. Pleace struck with his 5th delivery and the game was up for Rotherwick. The batting side seemed to change the tactics now and looked to frustrate the home side by being more determined not to get out rather than scoring runs. The ball was being flighted higher and higher to tempt some shots but only a handful of big shots were played. Small finally broke the 9th wicket partnership with only 69 on the board. Moore briefly came into the attack to float the ball down but it was left to the captain to take the final wicket and Liss had won by 181 runs. A great win and Liss travel away to Tichbourne Park next week to carry on this good form.
