Kingsclere v Liss Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 06 Jul 2013 at 2.00pm
Liss Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets

Match report Liss suffer first defeat with an under par performance. Liss won the toss and batted first on a very hot afternoon in Kingsclere. Pleace jnr and Sharp opened up and started to build a good platform. The bowlers were keeping it tight but both Pleace and Sharp managed to pick up runs and knock the ball around nicely. Sharp was the first to be dismissed and was quite quickly followed by number 3 Cowell bringing Moore to the crease in his last game of the season. Him and Pleace attacked the batsmen in the usual fashion and moved the score onto 80 after 20 overs. Moore was caught playing one too many big shots. Liss lost their next 3 wickets to the same shot being caught of a leg side long hop and liss were starting to give their wickets away. The steady Pleace went past his 50 but was unfortunately run out for 54. Pearce and Small looked to set a respectable score but Pearce was also caught. It was left to Small and Pleace snr to add what they could and after a decent partnership moved the total onto 197 before Small was dismissed. Liss had given a lot of wickets away and were short of what they should have posted.
Hedicker and Cowell opened the bowling for Liss and the home side got after Hedicker from the word go and got quick runs on the board. Cowell was bowling very well and Pleace jnr came on to replace Hedicker. Liss stemmed the flow of runs slightly but could not make a breakthrough. Kingclere were up with the run rate and were on target. Liss made to breakthrough with a run out, Allcock launching the ball in from the boundary catching the opening batsmen out. Kingsclere continued to bat well although Pleace jnr started to break the surface and had the batsmen in trouble a number of times. Cowell bowled a fantastic spell but unfortunately could not pick up a wicket. Murphy and Pleace snr came on now to slow things down. Liss began to pick up some wickets but the batsmen were still finding the boundaries and were right on track. The overs were running out and the game was starting to get very close. Liss were trying their hardest to stop boundaries but a well-timed 6 in the penultimate over looked to clinch it. Although Pleace jnr did take a wicket in the final over Kingclere scored the winning runs with 2 balls to go. An under average performance with bat and ball from Liss but hope to get back on track next week at home to St Cross Syms.
