Liss Cricket Club 1st XI v St Cross Syms V on Sat 13 Jul 2013 at 2.00pm
Liss Cricket Club Won by 138 runs

Match report Liss got back to winning ways with a runs fest at home to St Cross Syms V. Liss batted first on a hard track and set about their work straight away. Colin sharp and Richard Pleace jnr looked to set a solid base and tried to knock the bowlers off their stride early. Pleace jnr found an early rhythm and a partnership of 68 formed before Sharp was caught for 12. Pleace notched up yet another 50 and with the help of Cowell moved the total onto 106 in 22 overs before Cowell was caught for 14. Boundaries were still flowing for Pleace and a big score was on the cards. 130 runs came up when Pleace was finally caught for a fantastic 81. Liss lost another quick wicket and were now 131-4. The visitors started to sense a breakthrough but Gavin Kemp and Owen Murphy were now at the crease and soon the boundaries were flowing again. With 10 overs to go Liss had moved onto 171 and both Murphy and Kemp were timing it nicely. Kemp went past his 50 and really had his foot down when both he and Murphy were out Kemp 77 and Murphy 41. With the score on 256 Allcock and Small had a couple of overs to swing their arms. The visitor’s heads had dropped and the pair hit 22 off the last 2 overs and Liss had posted their best score of 282-6.
Cowell and Hedicker opened the bowling as usual and Cowell continued from last week bowling a superb line and length and caused problems from the word go. It was a frantic start with the batsmen running suicide runs and playing across the line liss picked up 4 wickets in the first 9 overs with 2 for Cowell one for Hedicker and a run out. Cowell continued to bowl well and picked up his 3rd wicket and St Cross were struggling on 27-5 and it looked to be an early finish. The pace came off the ball and Pleace snr and Small came into the attack. The middle order for the visitors started to dig in and started to post some runs in reply. Pleace snr did make a breakthrough and picked up 2 wickets and alongside new player Andrew’s first wicket they had penned St Cross back to 101-8 and Liss really tried to turn the screw. A good innings from Henshaw late on and a quick 20 from the Captain Herd took St Cross up to 144 before Pleace jnr cleared up the innings and set Liss back on track. Next week Liss look to continue their success at home to local rivals Petersfield.
