Liss Cricket Club 1st XI v Winterslow on Sat 07 Jun 2014 at 2.00pm
Liss Cricket Club Won by 149 runs

Match report After the newly purchased covers had saved the game Liss won the toss and batted on the best looking track of the season so far. Winterslow took the early advantage with Kemp being caught in the 4th over. Wrenn joined Pleace jnr and settled everything down. The pair looked very comfortable and started to form a partnership. Pleace once again took the opportunity to knock the ball around for ones and twos and left it to the big hitting Wrenn to tot up the boundaries. Liss had moved onto 63 before Wrenn was caught for 34. New recruit Gough joined the crease and looked to settle immediately. Both players rotated the strike nicely and frustration was building for the visitors. Pleace jnr was the next to go playing on for 26 but with the score now on 84 Liss looked to use the next 20 overs to set a large total. Moore and Gough continued where the rest left off and were scoring runs freely. The Winterslow attack did not seem to be causing any problems and Gough reached his first 50 for the club and had taken Liss passed the 150. Moore had quickly moved onto 38 before he was bowled, this brought the in-form Pearce to the middle and the strong batting line-up continued. Gough was finally dismissed for a fantastic 59. With 4 overs to go the home side had past 200 and Small and Pearce looked for 225 for maximum points. The steady Pearce and aggressive Small did this with ease and with 36 runs from the final overs Liss had posted an impressive 237.
Winterslow needed a solid start and although no wickets fell Cowell and Wrenn piled the pressure early. Both players bowling very well the visitors struggled to get the ball away. Wrenn made the breakthrough and dismissed both the openers in successive overs leaving the batting side 36-2. It was looking an uphill battle early on but the Winterslow now looked determined to see off the opening bowlers and not give their wickets away. After 20 overs the total had only moved onto 49 and Wrenn had finised with 2-15. Skipper Pleace jnr changed the pace with the bowling attack bring on his dad, Pleace snr and Small. Liss hoped that a slower pace may bring out some aggressive shots. As per usual this changed worked immediately with Pleace snr picking up 2 wickets in 3 deliveries. At 59-4 Liss really wanted to turn the screw and brought all the fielders in. A small partnership was formed and Winterslow had moved the score onto 85 before Small got into the action with two wickets in 3 overs leaving the visitors 85-6. Pleace snr continued to drop it on a length and nearly snagged his first ever hatrick but had to settle with 3 wickets in 4 deliveries and 9 wickets had now fallen. Winerslow batsmen were moaning the bowling was too slow to hit and that was the reason they were out. Pleace picked up his 6th wicket and the victory was sewn up with Winterslow all out for 88. A comprehensive victory and Liss are now 3 wins from 3.
