Liss Cricket Club 1st XI v Alton II on Sat 07 Jun 2008 at 1.30pm
Liss Cricket Club Won By 164 Runs

Match report 1st XI back to winning ways with an excellent derby win.
After the week before's catastrophe, the first XI responded spectacularly with a convincing 164 run win over local rivals Alton II. After winning the toss on an absolute belter captain Pleace had no hesitation in asking to bat first on a glorius day. Liss opened up with the usual pair of Martin and Pleace. And in dissapointingly typical fashion this year Martin lost his wicket having got himself to the teens (17). This brought debutant Garth to the crease and together with Pleace they set about building the foundation for a convincing total. Sensible running, good shot selection and the odd boundary built an excellent partnership before Garth was bowled for an impressive 68. This key partnership allowed for a more aggressive approach in the last 15 overs as Cover joined Pleace. Pleace duely completed his first league century of the year and eventually fell for a fantastic 122. Munt then came in for the last couple of overs and together with Cover pushed Liss to a score over 300. The innings ended up finishing on 302-3 after 48 overs (Cover 58*, Munt 8*).

The Alton reply could hardly have got off to a better start for Liss as Baul cleaned up Alton dangerman Vann for a diamond duck. Despite a good scoring rate, Alton wickets fell regularly to openers Baul and Baker. The Alton innings was anchored around the experienced Morgan (60). Baker bowled solidly for his 12 overs and picked up his second league five for (12-0-58-5). Baul bowled another convincing and firey opening spell and ended with another good set of figures (7.5-0-27-3). Pleace snr picked up the only other Alton wicket with Myers retiring due to illness and Alton finished 138 all out.

A resounding win brings back the promotion optimism and the first XI move up to second in the league. The league campaign continues with a trip to last placed pylewell this week.
