Liss Cricket Club Won By 34 Runs

Match report 1st XI Beat Locks Heath With Stunning Performance In The Field

Liss maintained there unbeaten record on Saturday with an excellent fielding and bowling performance against a strong opposition side. Locks Heath won the toss and chose to field on what looked a good batting wicket.

The opposition opened with the hostile Fowler who was rewarded for some excellent bowling instantly with the wickets of both openers Martin and Sherborne. Munt then fell for two playing on to an inswinging delivery. Cover and Pleace Jnr then had to consolidate for a long period against accurate and probing bowling from change bowlers Lemon and Dicken. Pleace Jnr then played a loose shot from a slower ball and was caught for 27. Hall then came in and lost his wicket cheaply. Cover continued to battle hard holding the innings together before departing for a well made 46. Murphy and Janczur then chipped in with 15 a peice before Liss were bowled out for a well below par 157. Liss came out fired up after tea knowing they had to be at there best to defend the modest total they had set.

Baul and Janczur got Liss of to a flying start with Pleace Jnr taking a great catch at second slip off Janczur in the 4th over. Baul seemed to struggle to find his usual rhythm at the other end but Janczur made up for it at the other end with an aggressive probing spell in which he claimed two crucial wickets to leave Locks Heath in trouble at 24-3. Cover and Munt then came into the attack and struggled to find another wicket as Richardson and Chamberlain rebuilt well and pushed the score towards a 100. Both batsmen looked comfortable as Locks Heath looked to be cruising towards the target until a great piece of team fielding produced a run out which sparked a massive collapse in the batting order. After Chamberlain had been unfortunately run out, Janczur came back into the attack to try and snatch the crucial wicket of Richardson and he did this forcing him to edge behind. Suddenly Liss were back in the game and spirits were high again.

Locks Heath only required 2.6 an over but Liss were making them work extremely hard for every run with some great pressure. Pleace Snr bowled with flight and accuracy and this was too much for the Locks Heath lower order. He managed to wrap up the game in quick fashion with the final 5 wickets to fall finishing with excellent figures of 5-15 and with Janczur 4-26. Overall a stunning comeback into the game which looked on a number of occasions to be lost but thanks to Liss fighting spirit they continue on there winning ways and maintain their unbeaten record.
